Here are some photos of the first stages of getting the baseboards and crown molding up. The baseboards were easy: nice right angles. We just had to cut out holes for the outlets. The crown molding on the other hand, was a bitch and a half. Even with some how-to videos that made it seem like a snap, figuring out the angles of the cuts on the mitre saw plus getting all our measurements exact proved to be way more tricky than we thought. At least its on the wall now.
Baseboards up. Room is a mess again.
Cutting the molding. We eventually moved the saw outside because cutting the large pieces was so unwieldy.
Curse you, corners! We eventually gave up on trying to get the long pieces to fit into the corners and just made our corners out of smaller pieces. The corners are only primed, not painted, but I'll have to paint over caulk and nail holes anyway, so they'll get painted in the process.
Molding is ON, praise the lord.
I also covered the nail holes on the baseboards. So now we have to caulk the joints between the crown molding pieces, caulk the edges on the baseboards and molding, and touch up painting. Then we can move furniture into the room! We still have to finish the windows, but that shouldn't be too difficult. Sooo close to having this room done!
