Race to the finish!

We're really working hard on trying to get the room done before baby gets here, which is any day now.

First we got the quarter round on the baseboards.

Baseboards without quarter round:

And with quarter round:

Mitch painting quarter round:

And quarter round complete!

Next step was to finish up the windows.  This is putting the sash cords and lead weights back on.

And here are the windows with the frames back on.

Next step is to get the trim around the windows back on.  We got new trim, and my mom made an appearance to help get the trim painted.

Next time Mitch and I have a day off together we will get it cut and put on the windows.

Next step was baby stuff...we did heaps of baby laundry.  Plenty of bibs and onesies!

Obo did the honors and assembled the crib and dresser/changing table.

Crib!  Its a cosleeper that will butt up to our bed.

Changing table/dresser, full of clothes and diapers, ready for baby!

Last but not least, mom got started priming the closet.

So on monday the plan is to paint the closet, get trim on the windows, and move the furniture into the room.  Then baby can come any time he wants.

more work on molding/baseboards

Almost done!  You can see in these photos some of the corners where there are seams in the molding are still in the process of being caulked/spackled and painted, but otherwise the baseboards and molding have been caulked and painted.  Mitch is going to finish those areas up and touch up the paint, then in the next few days we will put the quarter round on.  Then once the windows are back in (which should take no time at all - they're already painted and everything) we will move furniture in.  The closet still has lots of work to be done, but that can be done with us (and baby if necessary) living in the room.

Here is the molding, looking sassy.

Baseboards.  The quarter round is down on the left (but not yet painted) and not on the right, so thats what that will look like once we get it on around the whole room.

Some more pictures of the (almost) finished room.

Anniversary!

No photos to post today.  I painted the molding and baseboards, but there is still some work to be done and the wall to be touched up and then I'll take some photos.

Just wanted to make an entry to point out that we closed escrow on this house 1 year ago.  We've gotten a lot done, though not as much as I had hoped.  Apparently its hard to remodel a house on limited funds when both people work full time on conflicting schedules...we'll see what happens in the next year, though with little one joining our family, I'm not optimistic about getting that much MORE done this year...hopefully we'll be able to keep slowly chipping away at things!

Molding and baseboards

Here are some photos of the first stages of getting the baseboards and crown molding up.  The baseboards were easy: nice right angles.  We just had to cut out holes for the outlets.  The crown molding on the other hand, was a bitch and a half.  Even with some how-to videos that made it seem like a snap, figuring out the angles of the cuts on the mitre saw plus getting all our measurements exact proved to be way more tricky than we thought.  At least its on the wall now.

Baseboards up.  Room is a mess again.

Cutting the molding.  We eventually moved the saw outside because cutting the large pieces was so unwieldy.

Curse you, corners!  We eventually gave up on trying to get the long pieces to fit into the corners and just made our corners out of smaller pieces.  The corners are only primed, not painted, but I'll have to paint over caulk and nail holes anyway, so they'll get painted in the process.

Molding is ON, praise the lord.

I also covered the nail holes on the baseboards. So now we have to caulk the joints between the crown molding pieces, caulk the edges on the baseboards and molding, and touch up painting.  Then we can move furniture into the room!  We still have to finish the windows, but that shouldn't be too difficult.  Sooo close to having this room done!

2 more productive days

We picked out the crown molding and bought baseboards, and I got them primed & painted.  Here is my little basement painting station.

Now we need to get them cut, cut holes for outlets in the baseboards, and get them on the wall.

Mitch finished the floor refinishing by putting on a couple coats of the polyurethane finish.

Here is the room, post final coat of finish.  Thats a high shine!

Coming right along, slowly but surely.

Trim painted, floor stained

Cruising right along.  Got the paint on the trim today (at least the portion of the trim that is still on the wall).

The ugly areas on the top of the bottom of the room still need baseboards and crown molding, and we haven't even bought that yet, let alone painted it.  We will probably paint it first, then put it on.

I also put the first coat of stain on the floor today.  The room is looking more and more like a room, which is making me happy.

Here we are prepped and ready for trim painting.

Post trim painting, pre floor staining:

Putting stain on:

Finished product, floor stained and trim painted!

Tomorrow is my last day off, and there's not too much left that I can do by myself.  I may put a second coat of stain on the floor, and I may prime more of the closet (which is a bitch bastard due to shitty texturing and shitty plaster, but I'll be damned if I'm tearing down and drywalling the tiny closet.  NOT worth it).

Once the floor is stained, I'll have Mitch put the polyurethene finish on and we'll let that sit 24 hours, in the meantime we can pick out crown molding and pick up baseboards.   Getting those guys on should be a snap (famous last words?).  We also have to put the window frames back up (oh, and I should probably paint those...add that to the to do list) once Mitch has put new cords and weights on the windows.  I did paint the window frames today, so those are ready to be put on.  I think once thats done, we're done!  Then we move into the room and start picking out curtains and assembling baby furniture...

Paint is on!

Ok so Mitch is in Nashville now and its all me...painting, painting, painting.

Here are the new walls:

Tape off:

Doors painted the color the trim is going to be.  Its just got primer on it now.

Tomorrow I'm going to get the trim painted.   Then I will start staining the floor.  When Mitch gets bakc, we need to get the crown molding and baseboards up.  Slowly but surely it turns into a room.
