Priming the walls

Ok, so we have something that is starting to look like a real room.

First, you must appreciate what I'm dealing with here.  Here is the paint job that the previous owners did in the closet. There are three different colors.  Three.  It looks like they ran out of paint and were like "fuck it."  The white splotches on the brown section are me, mudding over holes.

So here is the room prepped for painting.  Finally done with the dang drywall joints!

Primer is on!

Now I have a day of work, then I am going to try to power through the painting as much as I can while Mitch is in Nashville for a conference.  Its the final countdown...

More drywall

Sigh...the block coat is way harder to get smooth than the tape coat.  Here is our wall now, all the joints except the corner joint have the block coat of joint compound on, so you can see the difference between the 2 coats.  One more coat until painting.

Gratuitous Rogue picture.  She is sad that I am paying attention to drywall and not her.

Maybe I'll make Mitch do that last coat of compound....I think it may be time to start picking out paint colors.

working on the joints

Got some more work done on the drywall today.

Me working on joints.  Mitch thinks I may be endangering the fetus in this position, I maintain that it was totally stable.  I love the way my walmart belly is hanging out the bottom.

The joints on the second wall have their tape coat on.

Mitch also put some drywall up to finish the wall in the bathroom.  Now we can do some more tiling.

Drywall is up!

Ok, so we have finished getting the drywall up in the master bedroom.

Studs and insulation:

Mitch starts to get the drywall up on the 2nd wall:

Drywall up!

I also got started mudding the joints on the first wall.

We've got a ways to go on getting the joints finished, but at least that isn't too much physical labor so we can both do it on our days off - it doesn't have to be a two man job.  Then we need to get the other walls prepped, and then we can paint!

Slooow progress

Ok.  So we're getting somewhere on the big bedroom.  It has some walls.  But still so much to do.  Progress is slow due to scheduling and my physical inability to heavy lift or do physical labor for more than a few hours.  I'm useless!  Anyway.

First Mitch put up some insulation.  Because our house had none.  None.  Hopefully this is going to make things quieter and cheaper to heat.

And now, drywall.

We still need to drywall the other wall, and then the dreaded job of doing the drywall joints.  OMG I can't wait for this room to be done, but sadly it is not remodelling itself.  We have some days off together next week, so hopefully we can get the rest of the drywall up, and then I have a couple more weeks before I go down to 3 days a week at work, so I can get some seams done, clean, prime, and paint the walls.  We need somewhere to put a crib and we only have 9 weeks to get there!  How do these remodeling TV shows do it in 48 hours?

Floor refinishing!

We (and by we I mean Mitch) spent 12 hours sanding down the floor in the big bedroom.  Sweet.  We won't put the stain or finish on until we're done with the rest of the room.

We're not sure yet if we're going to stain it dark like the front room, leave it more natural, or give it a reddish stain like it had originally.  It remains to be seen.

Back to work!

Wow, its been a long time.  We had another one of those months where Mitch was working on work stuff and I've been busy as well (and also lazy, to be honest).  But now we really need to get the bigger bedroom done so that when our little one comes along in October, we are in a room big enough to fit a crib.  So I got off my lazy pregnant butt and started doing some work.

So I started doing demo on the room.  We had taken the plaster down a few months ago (thanks britt and holly!) so I started today on the lath.

Here is my 20 weeks pregnant self, doing some demo.

Here are the walls taken down to the studs (at least up to the point where I could reach without a ladder):

The old lead weights to keep the windows open are still in place:

We have a lot to do on this room still: the floor needs to be refinished, the fixtures rewired, and new glass put in some of the windows.  All this before we can put up the drywall.  But we're starting to make headway.  My little parasite is lighting a fire under our butts...
